Offered for sale is a rare original poster as it was pasted onto the “Litfaßsäulen” (Advertisement Pillars or Billboards) in Nazi German towns and cities as well as in the occupied territories! There was no Facebook, no internet, no I-Pod or advertising through television at that time and these kind of posters where besides the People’s Radio and the Wochenschau in the movie theaters the way to bring news to the people. This poster was published in April 1938 by the NSDAP Gau (district) leadership of Wien / Vienna (formerly Austria) and was printed by Waldheim Eberle AG. The poster is announcing Reich Minister Alfred Rosenberg as speaker in several locations in Vienna on 6 April 1938.

Alfred Ernst Rosenberg (12 January 1893 – 16 October 1946) was an early and intellectually influential member of the Nazi Party. Rosenberg was first introduced to Adolf Hitler by Dietrich Eckart; he later held several important posts in the Nazi government. He is considered one of the main authors of key Nazi ideological creeds, including its racial theory, persecution of the Jews, Lebensraum, abrogation of the Treaty of Versailles, and opposition to “degenerate” modern art. He is also known for his rejection of Christianity, having played an important role in the development of Positive Christianity, which he intended to be transitional to a new Nazi faith. At Nuremberg he was tried, sentenced to death and executed by hanging as a war criminal.

This huge original poster is in excellent condition. The poster is linen backed which protects it perfectly from damage and which makes it very suitable for framing. The poster has been washed and de-acidified by a paper conservator and then linen backed. This is an archaically correct procedure used by museums and serious collectors. It is, in the hands of a trained paper conservator, completely reversible. The procedure uses acid free Masa paper and cotton duck and improves the appearance of the poster and enhances the poster’s collectability and value.

The size of this poster is 49-1/2 x 37-3/4 inches, it is in excellent condition and will look great when framed.
