This heavily illustrated monthly periodical promoted the virtues of the ‘Aryan’ race. It was published by J. F. Lehmanns Publishing House in Munich, one of the main sources of such literature in the Third Reich. Lehmanns Verlag was a publisher of racist literature long before the Nazis came to power. The company published many of the Nazi standard works on racial theory. Its monthly magazine Volk und Rasse was first published in 1925. Each issue contains articles on various aspects of racial thinking. Compared to previous years the 1938 periodicals contain a more open anti-Semitism. In comparison to the anti-Semitism a lot of material used in Volk und Rasse portrayed the Germanic (Aryan) races in the most pleasant light. Also presented in comparison to the healthy Aryan are the “unpleasant” or “inferior” groups and how much they cost the German people, such as the insane or hereditary deseased, Gypsies, blacks, etc. Nazi celebrities such as Heinrich Himmler and Reich Minister Walter Darre` contributed to these publications.
