SS-Obersturmfűhrer Dr. Percival Treite was a physician at the women concentration camp Ravensbrück who performed gruesome experiments on female inmates. Offered for sale is a two page document, signed by him in ink, which lists his scientific work in the field of urology and gynecology plus a cover sheet with his SS rank and address Frauen-Konzentrationslager Ravensbrück. This was sent to Prof. Dr. Rostock, also a high ranking Nazi physician who was involved in medical experiments on humans. The latest scientific work on the list dates 1943, and this is probably the year when he signed and submitted this document to Prof. Dr. Rostock. SS-Obersturmfűhrer Dr. Percival Treite was the son of a British mother and a German father, he studied medicine at Göttingen university and gained his doctorate in 1936. He had joined the NSDAP and SS in 1933. He was a prominent physician and specialized in gynecology at the ‘Berlin Clinic’ from 1936 until he was ordered to Ravensbrück concentration camp in September 1943 as the senior camp doctor taking over from Dr. Schidausky in December 1943. He was arrested in 1945 and charged with war crimes at a British Military Tribunal known as “The Ravenbrück Trial”, held in Hamburg between December 1946 and February 1947. He was found guilty on 3rd February 1947 and sentenced to death by hanging. He committed suicide in his cell on 9th April 1947. In a statement to a mixed Allied Court in Hamburg and referring to Ravensbrück he said, “I remember that many Polish women were killed with a bullet in the nape of the neck. This killing was done in a perfectly savage way, and it was feared that some bodies might be burned while still alive. So, under pressure of circumstances, I concerned myself with finding an appropriate killing process. It was the gas chamber.”
Prof. Dr. Paul Rostock (18 January 1892 – 17 June 1956) was a Nazi physician, official, and university professor. He was chief of the Office for Medical Science and Research (Amtschef der Dienststelle Medizinische Wissenschaft und Forschung) under Third Reich Commissioner and Nazi war criminal Karl Brandt and a full professor, medical doctorate, medical superintendent of the University of Berlin Surgical Clinic. After the end of World War II, Rostock was a defendant in the Doctors’ Trial. Because of his very high position, Rostock was charged with complicity in several series of human experiments on concentration camp prisoners. He was acquitted and released in August 1947.
