RARE ORIGINAL 1941 DOCUMENT SIGNED BY THE HEAD OF HITLER’S PERSONAL BODYGUARD UNIT,
THE REICHSSICHERHEITSDIENST
SS-GRUPPENFÜHRER JOHANN RATTENHUBER
HE WAS IN CHARGE OF THE FÜHRER’S SECURITY FROM 1933 TO 1945
Offered for sale is this rare original document, signed by (at the time) SS-Standartenführer Johann Rattenhuber in 1941. Johann Rattenhuber (30 April 1897 – 30 June 1957), also known as Hans Rattenhuber, was a German police and SS general (Gruppenführer, i. e. Generalleutnant). Rattenhuber was the head of German dictator Adolf Hitler’s personal Reichssicherheitsdienst (Reich Security Service or RSD) bodyguard from 1933 to 1945. In January 1942, Rattenhuber’s RSD units participated in the mass shooting of 227 Jews at Strizhavka. After the war, he was released from a Soviet prison on 10 October 1955 and allowed to go to West Germany. He died in Munich in 1957.
The document, dated 21 February 1941, is addressed to a SS-Sturmbannführer (Major) and Rattenhuber informs him that the Reichssicherheitsdienst or RSD is authorized to enter all military installations and buildings, search and arrest all civilians and military personal, do confiscations and check the papers of all military personnel regardless of rank. That made Rattenhuber a very powerful person in Nazi Germany. Strong ink signature. Rattenhuber received his orders directly from Hitler, even though he was technically on Himmler’s ‘payroll’.
