Zeppelin L 23 was built under construction number LZ 66 as a ‘Luftschiff’ for the military and first saw service as L 23 on 8 April 1916 and went on a total of 51 reconnaissance missions as well as on 3 bombing missions on England. On 22 August 1917 it was shot down by a British naval plane and totally destroyed with no survivors.
