SS-Obersturmbannführer August Dieckmann, commander of the 1./SS-Regiment ‘Germania’ and in 1943 commander of the 1./SS-Panzergrenadier-Regiment ‘Germania’ and recipient of the Knight’s Cross of the Iron Cross with Oak Leaves and Swords. Offered here is a page out of a photo album (270 x 190mm or 10-5/8 x 7-1/2 inches) that shows the award ceremony on 16 April 1943 when Adolf Hitler awarded him the Oak Leaves to the Knights Cross. The photograph is 120 x 180mm or 4-3/4 x 7 inches and has a strong ink signature by the hand of Dieckmann. He was the 233rd recipient of this award at the time. He was KIA on 10 October 1943 and posthumously awarded the Swords to the Knights Cross the same day.
