A SELDOM SEEN ADVERTISING FOR JULIUS STREICHER’S ANTI-SEMITIC NEWSPAPER
Offered for sale is this rare accordion-style fold out pamphlet, published and distributed by Julius Streicher’s Stürmer Publishing House in Nuremberg. This item was to advertise for Nazi Germany’s most anti-Semitic newspaper, ‘Der Stürmer’. The double-sided pamphlet measures 5 x 6-1/4 inches when closed and 38 x 6-1/4 inches when fully opened. The first panel shows a caricature of a Jew behind a Star of David with the motto: ‘Without a solution to the Jewish question, no solution for the German People‘ above the printed signature of ‘Der Stürmer‘ publisher Julius Streicher. There are demeaning caricatures of Jews on each page, all drawn by Fips (Philipp Rupprecht), who also did all caricatures for the anti-Semitic newspaper as well as for the anti-Semitic book for children ‘Der Giftpilz’ (The Poisonous Mushroom). There is a quote from Hitler denouncing Jews under each caricature, either from a speech or his book ‘Mein Kampf.’ The images include kosher butchers grinding rats, Jewish ‘devils’ seducing nuns, doctors leering at unconscious patients, Jesus chiding catholic priests for not persecuting Jews, etc. Some of the captions include: ‘The Jews live from usury, deceit and fraud’, ‘Germany will live as long as it sees the Jews as the enemy of mankind‘, and ‘The Jews are our misfortune!‘ The panels conclude with an advertising for a full-time subscription to ‘Der Stürmer’. A seldom seen historic artifact in very nice condition.
