The Germanische Leithefte was a Nazi periodical published from 1934 to 1945, primarily aimed at professional officers in the SS. It was published by the SS-Hauptamt, the main office of Heinrich Himmler, and printed by M. Müller and Sohn in Berlin. The publication was also extended to various European cities, including Oslo, Copenhagen, Brussels, and Den Haag, with editions in Norwegian, Danish, Flemish, and Dutch. The magazine was translated into different languages to accommodate the needs of the SS and its various branches.
The Germanische Leithefte was not only a publication for the SS but also for Germanic Volunteers, with later editions accommodating Dutch and Flemish Volunteers. The later translated publications used the main title with the addition of captions in Den Haag or Antwerpen. Norwegian and Danish translations were titled “Germansk Budstikke,” a term referring to a wooden stick used by messengers in Medieval times.
