‘ARBEITSMÄNNER ZWISCHEN BUG UND WOLGA’
The 7-3/4 x 10-1/2 inch, 104-page soft cover book by Hans Looks was published in 1942 by Zentralverlag der NSDAP in Berlin. The book is a very interesting account of the Reich Labor Service (R.A.D.) units that were deployed to the eastern front to repair roads, bridges, etc. that were either destroyed by the advancing Germans or by the retreating Russians and also to construct new roads to ensure that the German troops could further advance and be resupplied. For that, the ‘Arbeitsmänner’ (Labor Service Men) did not only carry shovels but also rifles to defend themselves, since they were operating very close to the front lines.
