This 8-1/4 x 11-1/2 inch, 64-page hardcover book in very good condition was published for the members of the Büchergilde Gutenberg (Books Guild Gutenberg). The Büchergilde Gutenberg was founded 1924 by an association of German book printers with the goal to give the poorer population in Germany access to education and culture through cheaper books. After the seizure of power in 1933 the Büchergilde was incorporated into the German Labor Front. At that time the Guild already had 85,000 members, the “book club” still exists today with about 100,000 members.
The book that is offered here was probably never for sale but more likely a “Thank You” for members of the guild. It contains about 60 full page illus-trations by several German artists. There is no publishing date but this rare item was probably published between 1935 and 1938.
