‘DER HOHEITSTRÄGER’

The ‘Der Hoheitsträger’ (The Sovereign)  was the official information organ of the Reichsorganisationsleiter of the NSDAP for functionaries of the party and its organs, called ‘Politische Leiter’ (Political Leaders). In addition, it was the proclamation sheet for the Main Staff Office, the Main Organization Office, the Main Personnel Office and the Main Education Office of the NSDAP. The monthly publication was strictly confidential, never for public sale, each copy was numbered and was supposed to be kept under lock and key and it was illegal to pass copies on to third parties. The editions contained the following instructions: ‘To be used by the recipient and reader only confidentially for service in motion. Any other use, as well as the intentional or negligent disclosure of the content to other persons, will be prosecuted in a disciplinary and criminal manner.’

The ‘Der Hoheitsträger’ was only for these political leaders: Gauleiter, Deputy Gauleiter, Gauamtsleiter, Heads of the Gauschulungsburgen, Kreisleiter and one copy was to be circulated among the diostrict office leaders and local group leaders, as well as the Obergruppenführer and Gruppenführer of the SA, SS, NSKK, NSFK, the Labor Gauführer of the RAD, the Heads of the Reich Student Leadership, the Gau Student Leaders.

It was published from 1937 to 1944 and contained propagandistic articles, reports, ideological training, reflections and training on the implementation of the further implementation of ideologies and measures in the Reich. The literature section “From the Writings of the Present” presented numerous new publications that were in line with the Nazi ideology. The monthly or bi-monthly magazines are 9 x 12-1/2 inches and each issue has 36 pages. They were never for public sale and were distributed free of charge to the select group of political leaders.
