ORIGINAL 1942 DOCUMENT, SIGNED BY THE SS PHYSICIAN OF MAUTHAUSEN CONCENTRATION CAMP
SS-HAUPTSTURMFÜHRER DR. ARIBERT HEIM
SS-Hauptsturmführer Dr. Aribert Heim was a German-Austrian concentration camp SS physician who performed gruesome deadly human experiments and surgeries without anesthesia in Mauthausen concentration camp, similar to what his colleague Dr. Joseph Mengele did in Auschwitz. He was accused of the killings of hundreds of inmates who all died in horrible ways. Heim reportedly removed organs from living prisoners without anesthesia, killing hundreds. He was captured by the Americans but not recognized as ‘Dr. Tod’ (Dr Death) or the ‘Schlächter von Mauthausen’ (The Butcher of Mauthausen) which were his nicknames in KZ Mauthausen. He was able to practice as a gynecologist in Germany until 1962 when his past caught up with him and he went on the run and probably escaped to Egypt. He temporary was the number one on Simon Wiesenthal’s list of the most wanted Nazi criminals but managed not to get captured. The German TV channel ZDF and the New York Times reported in 2009 that Aribert Heim died of natural causes in 1992 in Cairo. The German authorities declared him dead in 2012.
In the document, dated 16 November 1942, Dr. Aribert Heim, at the time SS-Obersturmführer, lists his assignments from 1 August 1940 to November 1942, signed in ink at the bottom.
His signature is even more rare than the one of his colleague Dr. Joseph Mengele, the ‘Angel of Death’ from Auschwitz and we have only seen one other signature of him (also sold on this website) and there probably won’t be another for a long time.
