Offered for sale is this rare original 1939 document, signed by (at the time) SS-Gruppenführer Gottlob Berger. He sent this letter to the ‘Persönlicher Stab des Reichsführers SS (Himmler) in Berlin in support of Oskar Dirlewanger. Shortly after this document originated, Dirlewanger founded and commanded the SS penal unit ‘Brigade Dirlewanger’ and his name is linked to some of the worst crimes of the war. He was extremely cruel, sadistic and cold blooded and Himmler was impressed by his horrible acts that he awarded him the German Cross in Gold. The document is accompanied by four (4) original period photographs which depict a member of the ‘Brigade Dirlewanger’ and on at least one of the photos the collar tab of the ‘Brigade Dirlewanger’ unit is clearly visible. Anything from that penal unit is extremely rare.
