EXECUTED FOR THE MURDER OF AMERICAN POW’S
Original 1937 dated document, signed by SS-Standartenführer Dr. Hans Trummler. Trummler became a member of the NSDAP as early as 1928 and had the low membership number 73599. In 1934 he was awarded the Golden Party Badge. This he reports to the SS headquarters in Berlin, Prinz-Albrecht-Strasse 9. Bevor joining the SS in the rank of Standartenführer (SS number 254581) in 1934 he was a SA leader. He was head of the Reich Sport School but his duties there ended because of misconduct and the Police report described him as a psychopath of brutal character. In 1938 he became a SS leader at the SD Main Office and a year later in the RSHA. During the Poland campaign he was leader of an Einsatzgruppe, then was appointed head of the SD / Police School in Drögen. In the summer of 1944, he was promoted to Inspector of the SD and SiPo in Wiesbaden and Metz. In the final stages of the war, he was leader of the ‘Kampfgruppe Trummler’, infamous for the so called ‘Bürgermorde von Altötting’ where his group executed German civilians who wanted their town to surrender to the Americans instead of it getting destroyed. Trummler also was responsible for the murder of American pilots who were prisoners of war. Especially for this crime Trummler was sentenced to death and hanged in Landsberg Prison in October of 1948.
