A PUBLICATION IN JAPANES AND GERMAN THAT WE HAVE NEVER SEEN BEFORE
This is a photo book documenting the visit of the German Hitler Youth to Japan in 1938.
The initiative was proposed by Baldur von Schirach, the leader of the Hitler Youth, to the Japanese side, and was realized through the mutual exchange of delegations consisting of several dozen representatives from each country. The photo book contains images of Hitler Youth members traveling across Japan and posing with prominent Japanese figures. In Japan, this project was treated as a major event, resulting in the publication of thick official reports and photo books like this one. The latter half of this book also features photographs from the visit of a Japanese youth delegation to Germany.
This reciprocal visit was also seen by Japan as an important opportunity to emphasize friendship with Germany. Racial ideologies were set aside, and at least on the surface, both sides appear to have received each other with great enthusiasm. It is a highly unique and valuable historical book.
There are no missing pages, but the condition is not very good – but we have never seen another copy in all the years. The text is in Japanese and in German, printed in Japan.
