VERY RARE ORIGINAL 1934 THIRD REICH COMIC BOOK
KALLE DER LAUSBUBEN-KÖNIG
Offered for sale is this seldom seen 8-1/2 x 11 inch hardcover book that was published in 1934 by Zeitschriftenverlag AG in Berlin. The book contains 60 funny stories of a boy named Kalle who has only pranks in mind. In 1938 the book was declared illegal by the Nazis when it was listed in the ‘Liste des schädlichen und unerwünschten Schrifttums’ (List of Harmful and Undesirable Literature). The original was Winnie Winkle, an American comic character and from 3 September 1933 to 29 December 1935 a total of 121 of these comics were published under the German title ‘Kalle der Lausbuben-König in the periodical ‘Neue Jugend’. To the best of our knowledge, this was the only American comic that was published for a few years in Nazi Germany. Of course there were other comics in Nazi Germany by German artists. A rare find in nice condition.
