Wittmann’s most famous achievement happened in 1944 in the French village Villers-Bocage where Wittmann’s Tiger I tank destroyed 13 or 14 enemy tanks, two anti-tank guns and a number of enemy transport vehicles within 15 minutes. He was awarded the Knights Cross with Oak Leaves and swords for his actions in this battle.
