THIRD REICH BOOK ON THE ‘PFLICHTJAHR’, THE MANDATORY FEMALE LABOR SERVICE
SO SCHAFFEN WIR!
The 5-3/4 x 8-3/4 inch, 108-page soft cover book by Ilse Arnold was published in 1941 by Union Deutsche Verlagsgesellschaft in Stuttgart. Offered here is a nice copy of the first edition. There was a shortage of female laborers who could help out on German farms. To overcome this shortage a law was passed in 1938 that regulated how and when every young German woman had to fulfill their ‘Pflichtjahr’ (Mandatory Year) on a German farm. The law also said that no woman under 25 could be hired if she did not have an entry in her “Arbeitsbuch” (Employment Identification Document) that proved that she had served her mandatory year. This is not a photo book but contains all the important facts, laws and regulations about this subject, making it a very interesting reference for anyone who is interested in this part of Third Reich history.
