The book is in good condition with the normal yellowing of the pages and some wear of cover and spine. The colored cover has a caricature which shows the “growth” of Jewish power in Holland, from poor immigrants coming from Eastern Europe to fat wealthy and influential members of the Durch society. An extremely antisemitic original Third Reich photo book on the Jews in the Netherlands. The country was occupied by the Germans in May 1940. This book was published in 1941 and presents the Dutch Jews in the most unpleasant way. It was written by Hans Paul Graf von Monts. His real name was Hans Paul Kreutzer, he “adopted” an aristocratic title (Graf = Count) and became a member of the NSDAP in 1930. During the war he was protected by Dr. Joseph Goebbels’ Ministry of propaganda and managed it also somehow to get the rank of a SS Obersturmführer, even though there are no records that prove his rank he claimed for himself the right to wear this uniform which he aqcuired somehow in the first months of the war. In the years 1942 and 1943 the Reichspropagandaministerium (Reichs Propaganda Ministry) put him in charge of supplies for the troops at the frontlines. During this time he managed to put millions of RM worth of “goodies” to the side and drove around in expensive vehicles. In early 1944 he was accused of corruption and committed suicide before he could be brought to trial.
The book he published is for some reason written in Dutch language (von Monts was never stationed in Holland but worked three years – 1939 to 1942 in the office of the General Governor of occupied Poland in Krakau) The size of the 63 pages soft cover book is 6 x 9 inches with many photos. The extremely antisemitic text tells how the Jews came from Eastern Europe (mostly Poland) to the Netherlands (a small country bordering the northwest corner of the German Reich) and how the poor “uncivilized” east Europe Jews managed it to become rich and powerful in Holland. The author uses the same terminology as i.e. Julius Streicher when he describes how they made their fortune (stealing, betraying,…). Right at the beginning the author already writes why the Jews have to be driven out of the country and the explaining text under each photo describes the Jew as the misfortune of mankind! He writes that the Jew lives in the dirt, is poisoning the “civilized” peoples and must be pursued! At the time of the German invasion in 1940 there were 140,000 Jews in the Netherlands — including some 30,000 who had fled from Germany, Austria and Czechoslovakia. Of that number about 100,000 perished.
