Dr. Walter Riehl; *Unser Endziel* [Our Ultimate Goal]. A 16-page pamphlet advocating German National Socialism. Almost a year before Anton Drexler published his tract *Mein politisches Erwachen* [My Political Awakening]—which prompted Hitler to join the then-DAP (later renamed the NSDAP)—the National Socialist Chancellery in Vienna issued this programmatic pamphlet, marking the very first National Socialist publication. The author, Walter Riehl, was a leading figure in the Austrian NS movement; the movement later splintered into several parties, with Riehl being the only leader to subordinate himself to Hitler starting in 1922. This copy belongs to the fourth edition and includes an additional preface in which the author addresses reactions to previous editions. The appendix contains a list of National Socialist periodicals published by NS organizations in Austria, the Sudetenland, and Germany. It also includes a reference to the NSDAP; the contact address listed is the party’s first headquarters at the Sterneckerbräu (Thal 54), and the designated contact person is the NSDAP’s first chairman, Anton Drexler. An extremely rare item of museum quality documenting the early days of the National Socialist movement.
