This is probably one of the rarest letters with a full signature of SS-Obersturmbannführer Adolf Eichmann on his personal letterhead, dated 15 July 1943, a few months after the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising was squashed. It is the only letter known to exist were he mentions in German, (the Jewish Question) also mentions Ghetto Jew , Ghetto Jewry  and the Ghetto  Uprising.  This comes out of the personal collection of Don Boyle, a renowned authority who has been authenticating items for over 40 years to include the World War-2 National Museum in New Orleans and also the Mexican Counselet as well as for individuals and dealers around the world. He made a special folder for it with the total translation and added copy photos of Eichmann during WW-2 and at his trial in Israel along with copies of his fingerprints. He will provide a COA at no additional cost. This unique find of great historical importance has never been at a show or offered for sale. It surfaced about 20 years ago from a wife of one of the investigators for war crimes at Nuremberg. This has to be one of the, if not the rarest signed Eichmann letters that exist because of the content alone.

Eichmann sent the letter to a (party and/or SS) comrade in Berlin. We can’t say for sure, but we think that Karl Dietrich, the recipient of the letter, was a SS officer who was KIA on 2 May 1945 defending the Reich Chancellery. Here is what Eichmann wrote to him, followed by the English translation:

Lieber Kamerad Dietrich!

Translation:

Dear Comrade Dietrich!

I received your holiday greetings with thanks and must admit to having felt—just a little—envious. It feels like an eternity since I was able to pay a visit to the beautiful island of Usedom. Nowadays, of course, large parts of the island are military restricted zones and thus no longer accessible to us vacationers.

But to turn to your question: Regarding the causes and effects of the negligent handling of the Jewish Question in the G.G. (General Government)—and specifically concerning the uprising in the Jewish residential district in Warsaw—I will be able to share much that is new and interesting with you at our next meeting. For Gruppenführer Müller had, in fact, issued me a service directive to go beyond merely assessing the degree of destruction inflicted upon the venerable city of Warsaw, and to form a comprehensive picture of the entire situation. Furthermore, I was tasked with conducting research into the underlying causes and fundamental principles behind the uprising. That is easily said, yet by no means easily accomplished; for the reasons, problems, and questions surrounding this alarming development are simply too multifaceted. In any case, I can only conclude by stating that, in light of the resistance we encountered from these insurgent ghetto Jews, we shall likely have to fundamentally rethink our worldview regarding Jewry as a whole. One truly cannot imagine that this “ghetto Jewry” was capable of mounting such fanatical resistance in Warsaw. It is now incumbent upon us to draw the necessary consequences from this event. Such a thing must, under no circumstances, be allowed to recur or to set a precedent. However, the respective Higher SS and Police Leaders bear the primary responsibility for ensuring this—not our small department.

My current workload—particularly in connection with the ghetto uprising—unfortunately precludes any lengthy meetings at this time. I will contact you by telephone as soon as I have managed to find a little more time.

In the meantime, I remain with best regards and Heil Hitler!

Yours, Adolf Eichmann

Eichmann participated in the January 1942 Wannsee Conference, at which the implementation of the genocidal Final Solution to the Jewish Question was planned. Following this, he was tasked by SS-Obergruppenführer Reinhard Heydrich with facilitating and managing the logistics involved in the mass deportation of millions of Jews to Nazi ghettos and Nazi extermination camps across German-occupied Europe. He was captured and detained by the Allies in 1945 but escaped and eventually settled in Argentina. In May 1960, he was tracked down and apprehended by Israel’s Mossad intelligence agency and put on trial before the Supreme Court of Israel. The highly publicized Eichmann trial resulted in his conviction in Jerusalem, following which he was executed by hanging in 1962.
