SS-Obergruppenführer KARL GEBHARDT was Reichsführer-SS Heinrich Himmler’s personal physician and also the doctor who was sent to Prague to attend Reinhard Heydrich’s wounds after he was assassinated. Gebhardt was also the head physician of the SS Lazarett (military hospital) Hohenlychen. Gebhardt performed gruesome experiments on inmates of the concentration camps at Ravensbrück and Auschwitz.

During the Nuremberg Trials, Gebhardt stood trial in the Doctors’ trial (American Military Tribunal No. I). He was convicted of war crimes and crimes against humanity and sentenced to death on 20 August 1947. He was hanged on 2 June 1948, in Landsberg Prison in Bavaria.
