WEHRPASSES FOR TWO SOLDIERS IN THE SAME UNIT

One Wehrpass was issued to a Friedrich Will rom Duisburg on 5 Sep 1940. He was assigned to different construction units at the Atlantic Wall, then was transfered to an Afrika unit in April of 1943. He was probably part of a reinforcement for the Afrikakorps. The remains of the DAK surrendered in mid May of 1943 and therefore Will was part of the coastal defense at the Atlantic coast in occupied France near Cherbourg. The second Wehrpass was issued to a Friedrich Mikowski from a small town near Berlin on 26 Aug 1937. The two Friedrich's eventually were assigned to the same coastal defense unit '3./Festungs-Stamm-Abteilung LXXXIV' stationed near Cherbourg, France. The two documents were bring backg of an American soldier and we suspect that both Germans were killed and he took the documents as souvenirs.

Friedrich asked in a letter that he sent home that his folks should send him some Reich Credit Bonds (something comparable to Travelers Cheques) that he could exchange into French currency. According to the Reichswehrgesetz (the Nazi army laws) that was illegal and the disciplinary action was two days of enforced arrest.
