Very interesting original 580 x 800mm or 22-1/2 x 31-1/2 inch poster, depicting Dr. Joseph Goebbels (who was not only propaganda minister but also Gauleiter of Berlin) at probably a Winterhilfswerk (Winter Aid) event (there is a bowl of soup in the foreground) with civilian Berliners. At the time when this poster was printed, most German cities were in ruins, including Berlin but on occasion of Hitler’s birthday on 20 April 1944 the civilian population of Berlin supposedly (according to an entry in Goebbels’ diary from 21 April 1944) decorated the city with banners and posters with the saying ‘Unsere Mauern brachen, aber unsere Herzen nicht’, meaning ‘you can bomb our cities to rubble but our love for the Führer cannot be destroyed.’ Very few of this late war hold out propaganda poster have survived and this is the first time that we are offering it. It has a number of old repairs and some reinforcing strips but none of that will show when this rare piece of late war Nazi propaganda is framed.
