The two 6 x 8-1/2 inch hardcover books with together close to 800 pages were published by order of the Oberkommando der Kriegsmarine (High Command of the Reich Navy) and printed in 1942 by the Verlag Berhard & Graefe in Berlin. This hard-to-find set is by far the best Naval dictionary ever published in the Third Reich! It gives thousands of nautical and naval warfare terms which then are translated into English, French, Spanish and Italian on the same page! The second book (called the “Stichwortverzeichnis” or keyword index book) is a guide on how to find a certain keyword in different languages in the main book! This extremely valuable set includes terms from regular seamanship, orders for the engine room, orders for the wheelman, anchor order terms, navigation, maritime law as well as law of naval warfare, the most common abbreviations for the sailor in five languages and, and, and…!
The set is complete and in very good condition. A great asset for anyone who has an interest in Third Reich seamanship and naval warfare.
