1938 ANSCHLUSS AUSTRIA ADOLF HITLER SIGNED PRESENTATION PHOTOGRAPH

This is a Nazi-era presentation photograph mounted as a commemorative display, dated 3 April 1938, immediately after the Anschluss (annexation of Austria by Germany) and with the original signature of Adolf Hitler.
The heading says: “Zur Erinnerung an die große Zeit!” (In memory of the great time!). This phrase was commonly used in Third Reich commemorative pieces to glorify major political events. The caption below the photograph says: “Der Kanzler des Reiches hat die steirische Landstube betreten.” (The Chancellor of the Reich has entered the Styrian Land Assembly Hall) followed by the descriptive teaxt that reads: “Nun werden ihm die Männer vorgestellt, die sich an der Spitze der Bewegung besonders bewährt haben. Das Bild zeigt den Führer des NS-Soldatenringes von Steiermark und Kärnten Generalstabsoberleutnant Ringel. Der Führer reicht dem Offizier die Hand.” (Now the men are being presented to him who have distinguished themselves particularly at the forefront of the movement. The photograph shows the leader of the NS Soldiers’ League of Styria and Carinthia, Lieutenant Colonel of the General Staff Ringel. The Führer shaking hands with the officer.)
The presentation is dated 3 April 1938 which is only less than 3 weeks after the ‘Anschluss’ on 12 March 1938 and during Hitler’s triumphal tour of Austria.
