GERMAN CROSS IN GOLD

BROUGHT BACK BY AN AMERICAN G.I. IN 1945

FULL MONEY BACK GUARANTEE FOR AUTHENTICITY!

Offered for sale is a genuine German Cross in Gold which was purchased directly from the veteran who "liberated" it in 1945 and brought it home as a war souvenir. It is a very nice example of the four rivet type. It is correctly marked "20" on the reverse side of the pin which stands for the maker Zimmermann. The German receipient of this high award had his name engraved on the reverse side. The pin and the catch are original, the enamel parts have no chips or cracks. The entire badge has some nice patina. A very nice addition to any collection of historic Third Reich artifacts which comes with a full money back guarantee for authenticity!

The German Cross (German: Deutsches Kreuz) was instituted by Adolf Hitler on 17 November 1941 as an award ranking higher than the Iron Cross First Class but below the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross respectively ranking higher than the War Merit Cross First Class with Swords but below the Knight's Cross of the War Merit Cross with Swords.

The German Cross was issued in two divisions: gold and silver (the color of the laurel wreath around the swastika), the former being an award for repeated acts of bravery or repeated outstanding achievements in combat, the latter being for multiple distinguished services in war efforts and was considered a continuation of the War Merit Cross with swords. The receipient of the German Cross in Gold had to already be a holder of the Iron Cross First Class or of the 1939 Wiederholungsspange (Clasp) to the 1914 Iron Cross First Class. The construction of this award is the most complex of all military decorations of Nazi Germany.
