ORIGINAL 1916 ADOLF HITLER WATERCOLOR

The Kiln at Haubourdain

Adolf Hitler. "The Kiln at Haubourdin." 1916. Watercolor on paper. with unfinished image on verso showing an unfinished figure of a soldier at the same location. It is an established fact that Hitler had difficulty rendering the human form and this inability led to his not being admitted to the Academy in Vienna. No piece of artwork illustrates this better than the present piece where one can see the difficulty that he had with the human form--to the point of discarding the image altogether and painting instead, a figure-less picture of the kiln in one the areas that Hitler's platoon was headquartered in WWI. 9" x 11.9" this double-sided painting has a closed and reparable tear on the right margin 2" in length affecting nothing of consequence to the composition of either work. Bold, clear signature. From the collection of Rudolf Hess through his wife, Ilse to the present owner with documentation.
