IN GERMAN AND DUTCH, CONTAINING THE LAWS FOR THE DUTCH POPULATION, PUBLISHED BY SS-GRUPPENFÜHRER AND REICHSKOMMISSAR FOR OCCUPIED HOLLAND, DR. ARTHUR SEYSS-INQUART!!

The 8 x 11 inch hardcover book is a number one reference for anybody who is interested in the German occupation of the Netherlands! The book contains the complete Nazi laws and regulations for the Dutch territories from 1942, created by the German government under Seyss-Inquart for the Dutch population. The book is half in German and half in Dutch. The book is in very good condition and will make a great addition for every collection of Third Reich, World War Two and occupation of the Netherlands history!

At the outbreak of the Second World War in 1939, the Netherlands declared itself neutral once again as in World War I. In order to flank the French defences on the Maginot Line and to pre-empt a possible British invasion, on May 10, 1940 Germany invaded the Netherlands, starting the Battle of the Netherlands, and Belgium. Given the historically good relations with its much larger neighbour, the invasion came as big surprise to most Dutch. German officials were divided on the matter if the Dutch were conquered foreigners or Aryan bloodbrothers. Most Germans regarded themselves as German nationalists, but the most important German officials, including the SS, Arthur Seyss-Inquart and Adolf Hitler regarded the Dutch as part of the Aryan Herrenvolk. Dr Arthur Seyß-Inquart who had a honorary SS rank of a "Gruppenführer" was appointed Reichskommissar for the Occupied Netherlands in May 1940, charged with directing the civil administration, with creating close economic collaboration with Germany and with defending the interests of the German Third Reich. Seyss-Inquart was an open anti-Semite: upon his arrival in the Netherlands he immediately took measures to remove Jews from government, the media and leading positions in the economy. When Hitler committed suicide in April 1945, Seyss-Inquart declared the setting-up of a new German government under Admiral Karl Dönitz, in which he was to act as the new Foreign Minister, replacing Joachim von Ribbentrop, who had fallen out of Hitler's favour. It was a tribute to the high regard Hitler felt for his Austrian comrade, at a time when he was rapidly disowning or being abandoned by so many of the other key lieutenants of his Third Reich. It was in effect a meaningless appointment, however—Seyss-Inquart was captured 8 days later, and the Dönitz 'government' was to last a mere 20 days. Seyss-Inquart remained Reichskommissar until May 8, 1945, when, after a meeting with Karl Dönitz to confirm his blocking of the scorched earth orders, he was captured in Hamburg and sentenced to death at the Nuremberg war tribunal. Seyss-Inquart was hanged on October 16, 1946, at the age of 54, together with nine other Nuremberg defendants.
