The 5-1/2 x 8-1/4 inch, 48-page soft cover book was published in 1936 on th eoccasion of the grand opening of the Naval Memorial in Laboe near Kiel at the shore of the Baltic Sea. The monument originally memorialized the World War One dead of the Kaiserliche Marine, with the Kriegsmarine dead of World War Two added after 1945. In 1954, it was rededicated to commemorate the sailors of all nationalities who lost their lives during both World Wars. At the beach in front of the memorial sits U-995, one of the only remaining German Type VII U-Boats from WWII.
