1940 SOLDIER’S EDITION “MEIN KAMPF” CONVERTED TO A WARTIME WEDDING EDITION

This is a very interesting copy! This is a so called ‘Tornisterausgabe’ or backpack edition, intended for the soldier at the front lines but, probably because of wartime shortages, the copy was converted to a ‘Hochzeitsausgabe’ or wedding edition and given on 1 August 1942 to a newlywed couple of a small German town (Rethen a.L.)! Definitely a rare book in very nice condition.

Adolf Hitler’s autobiography and political manifest. The copy that is offered for sale was published in 1940 by Central Publishing House of the NSDAP, Franz Eher, Nachf. in Munich, Germany. It was thought that not only the fellow Volksgenosse at home should read Mein Kampf but also the soldier who fought for their freedom at the frontlines. Therefore, a much smaller but unabridged copy was published. Its size was 4-1/2 x 6-3/4 inch, so it could be carried easier by the soldier than the standard edition. It was also printed on much thinner paper. It would be interesting to know how many soldiers actually read this book in their foxhole, trench or wherever else they saw duty.
