SS-Obersturmführer Joachim (Jochen) Peiper signed document. At the time when he signed this document he was adjutant of Reichsführer SS Heinrich Himmler. The message is addressed to Mrs. (Fräulein) Potthast, who was not only Himmler’s personal secretary but also his mistress with whom Himmler had two children! The address Berlin SW 11, Prinz-Albrechtstr. 8 is where Himmler’s office was located, the RSHA and seat of the Gestapo/SD headquarter as well. The note that Peiper signed says that ‘in reference to arrangement over the phone, the enclosed sealed envelope is to be handed to Mrs. Potthast – address’. Peiper later served in the 1^st SS Panzerdivision Leibstandarte SS Adolf Hitler at the eastern front and the western front. His battle group, Kampfgrupper Peiper was responsible for the Malmedy Massacre. He was first sentenced to death, then to life in prison which was reduced to 35 years. Upon release from prison he moved to France where he was murdered by anti-Nazis who set his house on fire. This document mentions Himmler, his personal secretary and mistress and is signed by his adjutant! A very interesting piece of history.
