ORIGINAL ADOLF HITLER PENCIL DRAWING WITH EXCELLENT PROVENANCE

Adolf Hitler colored pencil drawing with excellent provenance! This drawing originally comes from the family of Isidor Weiß (marked by a yellow arrow on one of the pictures) who was the owner of the Hotel Post/ Hintersee in Obersalzberg and previously was a superior officer of Hitler during WWI. After the Great War, Hitler and Weiss stayed in contact and were photographed by Heinrich Hoffmann together several times outside of the Hotel Post in Hintersee during Hitler’s visit to the lake.

The drawing overleaf was made by Adolf Hitler in June of 1918 towards the end of the war and a few months prior to him being hospitalized from injuries sustained in a mustard gas attack. When exactly and on which occasion Weiß received the drawing is not known. It measures about 8.5 inches x 5.5 inches and between an old piece of glass and a piece of matting and sealed along the edges with period paper tape. On the backside attached to the matting there is a short description written by daughter of Isidor, Anni Weiß who committed suicide in the 1980’s. The description is in German but translates to:

“According to Isidor Weiß, owner of the Hotel Post/ Hintersee, the drawing overleaf was made by Adolf Hitler. Isidor Weiß was a superior officer in the rank of a sergeant during WW1. When exactly and on which occasion Weiß received the drawing is not known. Numerous postcards of Hoffmann show Weiß and Hitler together in and in front of the Hotel Post during visits at the Lake Hintersee.”

We obtained the drawing directly from our contact in Germany who is a lifelong resident of Berchtesgaden and well-known historian and documentary producer. He was able to film himself interviewing many of the surviving Third Reich personalities and their families over the last several decades.
