Rare funeral sash from the estate of Generaloberst Gunter Korten. This funeral sash was bestowed by Reichsmarschall Hermann Goering. Gunter Korten was a high ranking Luftwaffe officer on the staff of Hermann Goering. He was present along with Hitler and others at the Wolf’s Lair during the assassination attempt on Hitler’s life of 20. Juli 1944. Mortally wounded Korten succumbed to his wounds two days later (22. Juli 1944). Hermann Goering arranged for a large ceremonial funeral to be held for Korten at the Tannenberg Memorial in East Prussia. The full length sash is approximately 12ft in length. It is made of a red/orange moire pattern material with impressed gold lettering stating from Der Reichsmarschall des Grossdeutschen Reichs. Both ends have a gold metallic fringe. Some light ware to letters, light fading, some missing fringe all commensurate with age. Overall excellent condition. Pictures are included. They are not “old” but are from the Bundesarchiv for reference.
