24 inch Reichsbahn Eagle, Presented to US Soldier in 1945.

A few of these eagles were presented to US soldiers serving in Germany at the end of the war. They were mounted on wooden plaques and given as awards typically to the soldiers that were in charge of rebuilding Germany’s destroyed rail system.

This presentation eagle was presented by Lt. Col. John W Moe on 3 June 1945 to Mr. G. Blyberg. The eagle was captured in Kassel on 9 May 1945. There is a horizontal crack in the original wooden plaque. The eagle is mounted on the wood with two screws that we unscrewed to take pictures of the back of the eagle. The hanger appears to be modern, everything else is original and unaltered.

The period photos taken from a reference book about Nazi eagles show one of these presentation eagles being awarded. One of very few veteran bring back eagles tied to a soldier’s name!
