Dunkelmaenner

(Men of the dark)

The 7-3/4 x 10-3/4 inches soft cover book was published from Wilhelm Matthiessen and printed 1942 from the Verlag Knorr&Hirth in Munich. On 160 heavy material pages and cartoons on every page this Third Reich book shows all the aspects of the church which the Nazi hated like their influence, how they make profit, how the church tried to play the first violin in the life of i.e. hard working farmers (instead of making the National Socialist ideology their religion), etc.! A very interesting book which clearly shows how suspicious the regime was about the influence of the church in Hitler-Germany.

The first cartoon in this book is one of two Jews, one pointing to a nearby church and saying to his friend: "Salomon, look, this is the most profitable business in the world!"

The cartoons are against the Protestant church as well as against the Catholic church. Many of these cartoons point out churchly behavior of the past in comparison to the National Socialist Germany, i.e. the witch hunters in the past loved to undress "witches" to examine them before they were burned but today (in Nazi Germany) they don't want to see pictures of nude Aryans in the public...

Several other cartoons show the archbishop of Canterbury (England) having a deal with the devil to destroy Germany!

A very very interesting and rarely seen original Third Reich book!
