SECRET STATE POLICE)

THE FEARED POLITICAL POLICE IN NAZI GERMANY

INCLUDING ONE DOCUMENT FROM REINHARD HEYDRICH'S OFFICE

IN BERLIN PRINZ-ALBRECHT-STRASSE 8, THE GESTAPO HEADQUARTER!

The document above was sent from the Gestapo branch in Zwickau to the head office in Plauen regarding the interrogation documents of Paul Lang-heinrich. The scan below is the document which says that Langheinrich was transfered from Strafgefangenenlager (prison) Papenburg to the Gestapo prison Zwickau on 28 September 1938. The next document below is a very interesting one from Langheinrichs lawyer, a law office in Zwickau. It is addressed to the Gestapo office in Zwickau and the lawyer is asking for a response to his inquiry regarding Langheinrich, probably to release him(?). There is a Gestapo rubber stamp on the document and a handwritten note that no inquiry from the lawyer has been received. We do not know what happened to Langheinrich but these rare documents are dated seven years before the Third Reich collapsed and he may have not survived seven years in Gestapo custody...

THIS SET OF RARE DOCUMENTS WILL BE AN IMPORTANT ADDITION FOR EVERY COLLECTION ON THIRD REICH POLICE AND GESTAPO MATERIAL!

GESTAPO DOCUMENTS

(GEHEIME STAATSPOLIZEI OR

SECRET STATE POLICE)

THE FEARED POLITICAL POLICE IN NAZI GERMANY

INCLUDING ONE DOCUMENT FROM REINHARD HEYDRICH'S OFFICE IN BERLIN PRINZ-ALBRECHT-STRASSE 8!

Offered here is the correspondence between the Gestapo headquarter, a jail in Zwickau and a lawyer regarding a member of the Communist Party, Paul Langheinrich, who was taken into "preventative arrest" (Schutzhaft). The fifth document is on a young man (Friedrich Schulterer) who is, according to the medical report, insane and a danger for the public and has to remain locked away. The large pink document is the "Schutzhaftbefehl" (preven-tative arrest order), filled out by order of Reinhard Heydrich (!) in his office, the Gestapo headquarters in Berlin, Prinz-Albrecht-Strasse 8 - close to the New Reichschancellery and one of the most feared buildings in the entire German Third Reich! The reason for the order to keep Paul Langheinrich in jail was that there is a chance that the he could still be active in the illegal German Communist Party, if released. (Please see scans below)

"Gestapo" is the abbreviation of Geheime Staatspolizei ("Secret State Police") and was the political police of Nazi Germany. The Gestapo ruth-lessly eliminated opposition to the Nazis within Germany and its occupied territories and was responsible for the roundup of Jews throughout Europe for deportation to extermination camps.

When the Nazis came to power in 1933, Hermann Göring, then Prussian minister of the interior, detached the political and espionage units from the regular Prussian police and filled their ranks with thousands of National Socialists. On April 26, 1933 he reorganized them under his personal command as the Gestapo. At the same time Heinrich Himmler, head of the SS, together with his aide Reinhard Heydrich, similarly reorganized the Police of Bavaria and the remaining German States. Himmler was given command over Göring's Gestapo in April 1934 and on June 17, 1936 he became chief of the German Police with the title of Reichsführer. Nominally under the Ministry of the Interior, Germany's police forces now were unified under Himmler as head of both the SS and the Gestapo.

The Gestapo headquarter in Berlin, Prinz-Albrecht-Strasse 8

In 1936 the Gestapo, led by Himmler's subordinate, Gruppenführer Heinrich Müller was joined with the Kriminalpolizei (Criminal Police) under the umbrella of a new organization, the Sicherheitspolizei (Sipo or Security Police). In 1939 the Sipo was joined with the Sicherheitsdienst (Security Service), an SS intelligence department, to form the Reichssicherheits-hauptamt (Reich Security Central Office) under Reinhard Heydrich. The Gestapo operated without civil restraints and had the authority of "preventative arrest" (the historic documents offered here are a very good example!) and its actions were not subject to judicial appeal. Thousands of Communists, intellectuals, Jews, trade unionists, homosexuals, etc. simply disappeared into concentration camps after being arrested by the Gestapo. The political section could order prisoners to be executed, tortured or released. Together with the SS, the Gestapo controlled the treatment of the so called "inferior races" such as Jews and Roma (Gypsies). During World War II the Gestapo also suppressed partisan activities in the occupied territories and carried out reprisals against civilians. Gestapo members were included in the Einsatzgruppen (deployment groups), which were mobile death squads that followed the German regular army into Poland and Russia. Bureau IV B4 of the Gestapo, led by of Adolf Eichmann, organized the deportation of millions of Jews from other occupied countries to the extermination camps in Poland.
