Fritz started out in the 2./SS "Germania" and was then transfered to the MZ/SS "Germania". MZ stands for Musikzug, the only 40 men strong 'band' - the smallest unit of the SS-Standarte 'Germania'!

Fritz Schmidt fell for Greater Germany on the Eastern front on 17 July 1941, only a few weeks after the begin of 'Operation Barbarossa'

THAT CONSISTED OF ONLY 40 MEN AND ANY MATERIAL OF THAT SMALL UNIT IS VERY SCARCE

Offered for sale are the Arbeitsbuch and Wehrpass of Fritz Schmidt, a young musician who volunteered for service in the SS and who was accepted in the SS-Standarte "Germania" in 1939. He first saw service in the 2./SS-"Germania" before he was transfered to the MZ/SS-"Germania". MZ stands for Musikzug, the only 40 men strong 'band' of the SS-Standarte "Germania"! Material of this small unit rarely surfaces. Fritz Schmidt was killed in action on 17 July 1941 at the Russiand front, only a few weeks after the begin of the campaign.
