DER R.A.B. STRASSENMEISTER

(THE REICH MOTORWAYS ATTENDANT)

WITH EXCELLENT PHOTO REPORTS ABOUT PARAMILITARY TRAINING OF ORGANISATION TODT UNITS, THEIR ASSIGNMENTS IN THE EAST, ETC.!

These rare 8-1/4 x 11-3/4 inch periodicals were published by the press and propaganda office of the Generalinspekteur of the German motorways system, Dr. Fritz Todt. This extremely inte-resting periodical was first published in 1939 and it came out every two months. After the start of the war against Russia the Strassenmeister's duties changed. The original job of the Third Reich Strassenmeister was the maintenance of the Reichsauto-bahn, keeping everything in good working condition, take care of the ditches along the RAB, inspect the motorways for damages, keep the Autobahn free of ice and snow, etc. When the German Wehrmacht marched into Russia in the summer of 1941 things changed for the RAB Strassenmeister: he received training on the proper use of pistols, rifles and other weapons, he became a new (military-like) uniform and he now maintained the roads in the German occupied parts of Russia. The Strassenmeister was a member of the Organisation Todt which was in charge of the construction and maintenance of the Reichsautobahn. After the outbreak of the war the OT became an affiliated organization of the Wehrmacht. Offered are the following five issues:

May / June 1941

November / December 1941

January / February 1942

March / April 1942

May / June 1942 (all issues are in very good condition)

the Führer and Reich Minister for Armament and Ammunition Albert Speer who was also Hitlers favorite architect

the five rare periodicals contain a lot of very interesting photo material, a great reference for anyone interested in the his-tory of the Organisation Todt! Please note the OT armband on one of the photos above!

above: the new Strassenmeister uniform and Dienstmütze (service cap) and the song of the Strassenmeister which ex-plains in a few rhymes what they do: maintaining the Reichsautobahn, clear the roads from snow and ice (in the homeland and in Russia) and fight as regular soldiers when needed.
