the box needs some restauration work (or leave it as it is) but all original parts from the box and the apparatus are there. The only part which needs to be replaced is the piece of plywood which holds the air hoses inside the lid in place. This can be purchased at any lumber yard for approx $5.00

the oxygene bottle, pressure regulator, face masks, etc.

the blue oxygene mask has a sticker from the German gaging office on it which testified the safe use of this equipment til a long time after the end of the Third Reich!

The manual for this interesting Third Reich item (which we have never seen in such complete condition) was printed in May 1943 in occupied Prag (Praha or Prague) but the apparatus itself (and probably the box, too) was made by the well known Auer company in Oranienburg, close to Berlin.

The original 1942 manual explains the correct use of this oxygene apparatus and all the parts which are shown on the illustrations are still there. Please note the little aluminum container which is glued on the plywood, it still contains spare rubber seals just as the manual describes it!

RARE ORIGINAL COMPLETE 1942 THIRD REICH

OXYGEN APPARATUS IN WOODEN WEHRMACHT BOX

Sauerstoff Behandlungsgerät 38

FROM THE WELL KNOWN AUER COMPANY

A UNIQUE ADDITION FOR ANYONES COLLECTION

OR A GREAT MUSEUM DISPLAY ITEM!

This rare item has probably never been used, all parts are still there and don't show any signs of use. Everything shows signs of corrosion and the wood parts need restauration but this is the result of being stored in a German basement for the last 60 years! Of course we did not check the function and do not recommend to try out if it still works (remember what happened to the big White Shark in "Jaws" when the oxygen bottle explo-ded in its mouth...).

This apparatus was made in 1942 by Auer, a well known maker of safety and medical equipment. This company is still in business today. In the 1940s when this oxygen apparatus was made they were located in Oranienburg, near Berlin. This interesting piece of equipment was perhaps never issued to a medical unit in the Wehrmacht, even though the outside of the box is in Wehrmacht Grey but we could not find any unit markings. We got this item in Berlin and probably it never left the city where it was made. Or it may have been used from a RLB (Reichs Luftschutzbund) unit to give oxygen to victims of the intense Allied Air Force bombings or their rescuers in the Reichshauptstadt Berlin.

All parts except #10 (a regular wire-brush) that are explained on this aluminum chart are still present!

Stored in the lid of the box are the hoses and a wrench

All the hoses are still flexible and all other rubber parts are still soft, we found no cracks and also no missing parts.

All the original hardware of the unaltered box is still present but needs res-tauration like the box itself which still has the original grey Wehrmacht paint on the outside
