'BEAMTENAUSGABE'

THIS LIMITED EDITION WAS PUBLISHED ONLY IN 1939 AND IN AUSTRIA IN RECOGNITION OF THE FÜHRER'S 50th BIRTHDAY AND GIVEN TO DESERVING CIVIL SERVANTS IN HITLER-GERMANY

Adolf Hitler's autobiography and political manifest. The copy that is offered for sale was published in 1939 by Central Publishing House of the NSDAP, Franz Eher, Nachf. in Munich, Germany. In recognition of Hitler's 50th birthday a limited edition, called "Jubiläumsausgabe" (Jubilee Edition) was published. It was a "DeLuxe" version of the regular blue Volksausgabe (People's Edition), but also larger in size (235x165mm). What many don't know is that also a red Jubilee edition was published in 1939 in Austria, Hitler's homeland. The book thaty is offered here, however, is a very nice copy of a third 'Jubilee' edition that also was printed on occasion of Hitler's 50th birthday: the so called Beamtenausgabe or Civil Servants Edition. Slightly smaller in size but in the same design as the regular Jubilee edition, this book was given to deserving civil servants in Nazi Germany.

Hitler dictated this book to his secretary, Rudolf Hess while imprisoned in Landsberg after the failed 1923 revolution. The first editions, published in 1925 (Band I or Volume One) and 1926 (Band II or Volume Two) were published in separate volumes. With only a few exceptions (special editions) all subsequent Third Reich editions (1933 to 1945) contained both volumes combined in one book. Very few copies of the first editions have survived. When his book first came out it was not a success, few people cared about the book in 1925 which would almost have had a much longer title. The original title Hitler chose was "Viereinhalb Jahre [des Kampfes] gegen Lüge, Dummheit und Feigheit" (Four and a Half Years [of Struggle] against Lies, Stupidity and Cowardice). His Nazi publisher, Max Amann, decided this title was too complicated and had it shortened to Mein Kampf (simply "My Struggle"). Before Hitler became Reichs Chancellor of Germany in 1933, Mein Kampf sold very slowly; but in 1933 alone 1.5 million copies were sold.

This Civil Servant edition was published in 1939 in recognition of Hitler's 50th birthday. It is not to be mistaken with the blue or red Jubilee editions that were published also in 1939 but are slightly larger in size than this book. Each copy has a signed and officially stamped dedication for the Nazi party member who received this book in recognition for outstanding services for the party.
